Frequently Asked Questions

What are the differences between 2D, 3D, 4D, and HD ultrasounds?

2D (2-dimensional) ultrasounds are the typical black & white ultrasounds that you are used to seeing; these images allow you to see the outline of the baby.

3D ultrasounds allow you to see your baby in three dimensions, showing facial features and distinct characteristics of your baby.

4D ultrasounds add the dimension of time, allowing you to see moving 3D images of your baby!

HD Live ultrasounds utilize a unique technology from GE that allows an even more distinct image of your growing baby’s face. Additionally, we can use different lighting angles to capture the sharpest shot of your baby.

When are the best times to have 2D versus HD/3D/4D ultrasounds?

2D ultrasounds (e.g. our “Wiggle Worm” package) are usually performed between 8 and 12 weeks. Our only stipulation is that you must have had a medical ultrasound prior to visiting our facility. HD/3D/4D ultrasound times vary depending on what you are looking to get out of the ultrasound. If you want to see your baby’s entire body, we suggest coming between 22 and 25 weeks. If you are looking to get more detailed images of your baby’s facial features, we recommend coming anywhere from 26 to 35 weeks.

What can I do to prepare myself for the ultrasound to ensure the best possible images?

Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water will significantly improve the image quality of your ultrasound experience. We recommend that about a week prior to your appointment to increase your normal fluid intake.

How long will my appointment last?

This depends on the package that you have selected. Whichever package you choose, anticipate adding on about 10-15 additional minutes to fill out some paperwork prior to the ultrasound. It also takes a few minutes for us to prepare your images so that you can take all of your goodies home with you that night!

Are family and friends allowed to come to my appointment?

Of course, this is a beautiful moment! Currently, we are allowing 5 guests to accompany the mama-to-be.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, appointments are required for all of our services.  You may book online, call/text, or email us!

Is this procedure covered by insurance?

No, 3D/4D ultrasounds at our facility are elective procedures, meaning that it is not medically necessary.

Are you able to tell the gender of my baby?

Yes, for the most part we are able to tell the baby’s gender. There are times, however, when the baby may be in a difficult position. Rest assured, we will try within our power to send you home with a precise answer. With our gender package (Peek-A-Boo), gender is guaranteed. Meaning, if the baby chooses to be a little modest at your first appointment, then it is free to come back!

Are there any risks that may affect me or my baby?

Ultrasounds have been performed for decades to view growing babies with no adverse effects reported. Rest assured, only registered diagnostic medical sonographers (RDMS) are performing your ultrasounds, and we incorporate the same rules regarding safety that are used in a medical setting.  3D/4D ultrasounds are medically safe; they use the same frequency as the 2D ultrasounds that are performed by your doctor.
